Hamilton surrounded by expectations as the British GP begins
World of motor racing is all about Great Britain now. Thousands gather in Northamptonshire’s Silverstone international circuit for the very special annual occasion – the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. Ticket prices have been boosted since last year thanks to enormous local popularity of the young McLaren star Lewis Hamilton, who is, however, experiencing a massive slope of luck recently.
It all went wrong for him in Canada when he suffered a very embarrassing accident, crashing into Kimi Raikkonen who stopped at the red light. Then came the miserable French GP, marred by the drive-through penalty for making an overtaking manoeuver by cutting the track. Even when Lewis decided to relax and go for some yacht racing during his free time, an accident again wasn’t to be avoided. His yacht has hit a competitor and the entry was disqualified, despite snatching the victory in class. Unlucky Lewis...
Former British F1 hero Jenson Button actually challenged Hamilton for a triathlon challenge, after the latter claimed to be fitter than him. Honda’s star driver promised to pay £10,000 to any selected charity if he outperforms his McLaren rival in the competition. Even though Hamilton was eventually proudly up for it, the slight embarrassment came after the press conference. His dad and manager Anthony did not allow the youngster to go and sort it out with Jenson, saying this was not appropriate at the current stage of the championship fight.
It all seems to be falling apart for him lately. Yet this weekend has to be the turning point, especially as entire Silverstone crowd will be cheering for their driver all weekend long. Solid moral support was also expressed by his boss Ron Dennis who admired how complete of a driver and human Lewis is. And for a reason, because after the shortcomings of recent races he still is full of confidence and having tried some new McLaren aero upgrades, expects the best out of his home Grand Prix. Hopefully Woking-based outfit will successfully defend British honours this Sunday.
