The issues of religion and sexual minorities are both common yet extremely sensitive subjects in today’s world. But when they merge into one, it really gets a lot of angry voices talking. As it is the case after two Anglican church priests got married in London, making it the first occasion of the kind.

During its 9 centuries history the church of St Bartholomew the Great in London has never witnessed anything like this. As 300 relatives and friends were watching, the Rev Peter Cowell and the Rev Dr David Lord loudly entered, followed by fanfare and a singing choir.

And the usual ceremony started as the couple exchanged vows and rings, while swearing ‘in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.’

Reverend Martin Dudley, has sparked a massive fury throughout the community of the Anglican church, after holding the first gay priests marriage, using the traditional liturgy. He even faces sacking if it turns out he broke the strict rules of church.

Even though angry responses were heard internationally, other priests supporting homosexual rights were claim the ceremony was perfectly appropriate.

As the world keeps changing towards the favour of the homosexual people, such occasions still are and will remain uncommon. And it is awfully hard to tell just how much the authority of the church has eroded and just how much support it lost. The support that is usually formed by the conservative, religious people.

It is perhaps possible to deal with this by saying “as long as they stay away from the children...”, but if homosexual priests marriages are going to be further held with such little opposition, it will be impossible to avoid asking ourselves – where is this world going?
